"These paintings transfigure the suffragettes into what I would call representative figures, and by 'figures' here
I don't mean historical people, I mean emblematic signs. The stylistic unity - abstract orderings, recurrent
colours and motifs, stylised figuration, formal configurations (diptych, triptych, flag-like tri-colour, etc) -
increases the rhetorical intensity of the suite as a whole, and also emphasis the presentation of the events
and characters as not simply historical but symbolic or representative images..."

The Art Gallery at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, is presenting an exhibition of oil paintings by Clare Andrews entitled, Tomorrow’s Utopia. The works in the exhibition have particular relevance to the history of the NHS and to Aberdeen.
